Shout out to bloggers!!!

Okay seriously.  Bloggers... we need to get back our community.  I miss the "old days" when blogging created such a great community for bloggers, mom bloggers, scrapbookers, photographers etc.  It was amazing to connect to other women around the country who shared in your same woes and triumphs.

I miss it.  I really do.

So, I'm determined to change this.  I'm going to cut back on Facebook.  Because I full heartedly blame Facebook for the "demise" of the blogging community.  I do.  And it is time for blogging to make a comeback and for the blogging community to reconnect.

Here is what *I* am going to do... and what I am going to challenge *YOU* to do as well.

-Post on your blog at least 3 times this week.  Even if its just a little blip about something small that happened during your day.  Post.  Document it.... for you... for your kids... for your memories.

-Comment on at least 3 other bloggers each day.  Most bloggers use Google Reader (or bloglines?  is that still around?) and it is so easy to read a post and skip onto the  next without commenting.  Don't.  Leave them a little blog love... everyone loves comments!

-And this week I'm going to start doing a Blog Surfing Sunday (or something like that) and highlight a few blogs.  I hope that my readers will take a few moments to hop on over to those sites and leave them some comment love.

So... are you in?  Are you willing to make a little effort to reconnect?  Is anyone still out there reading?  Leave me a comment... I do love it.

  1. I prefer to blog rather than facebook. I am bored of facebook. I will get on this mission with you. Maybe we could do some blog hops together or something.

  5. Yay for blogging!
I've been trying to be better (sans the last couple weeks of vacation) about blogging this summer. But as much as we say we blog "for ourselves", it really isn't the same with that community. And we all had such a great one back in the day!!

I mentioned starting a weekly blog thing with those "what's on... " pictures I've been doing, but got absolutely no response. I'm going to go ahead and do it and do a link up and see if there'll be any takers with this new found motivation you've put out there.

Also... for your blog surfing Sunday... my first thought was 'great, the last thing i need is more blogs to read!' but then I realized that is a great idea if you're sticking to blogs many of us know or read or did read at one time and need to be reminded of... you know, like within the "community"?! As is not just a fun to look at idea blog or something, but someone you -Nicole- actually read and know and have conversations with. Or want to. So that if it's something/someone a few of us might find worth knowing, that introducing us to them is for rebuilding that community and not just lengthening our google reader list. And I LOVE that idea!

  9. Yeah I can do it! I'm on vacay this next week so it should be easy peasy. Now I just need to actually have people read what I write. My real life friends don't blog but they are all about Facebook, which I won't go near with a 10' pole.

  11. This is a great idea! I feel so 'meh' about blogging lately... I was just thinking maybe I should just hang up the towel. Perhaps this will inspire me to keep it up! Oh btw, I meant to comment on an earlier post of yours about traveling with your kids...holy cow, you are amazing for doing such a big trip ALONE with your two boys! Hope you had a good vacation.

  12. I like it a lot. Just like I liked the photo challenge a lot. I did TRY to take self-portrait and hated every single picture and quit. I miss the "I'm not alone" feeling that used to come with blogging ... these days posting on my blog just makes me feel more alone. I just told my husband last night that I was going to quit paying the monthly fee and remove one more thing I can't get done off my plate. Maybe if I felt like there was a point, I'd do it.

  13. Great post! I am new to the personal blogging world (have done it corporately for a while) and I am HOOKED! I started researching Mom Bloggers for my work and very quickly got sucked in :) Count me into this for sure!

  15. Facebook... That's it. It is just so easy to jump on and leave a little "status update" about what is going on. I was just tell ing my husband I am sick and tired of using facebook as my excuse not to blog. Thanks, this is just what I needed. Now lets see if I can stick to it.

  16. Hi Nicole. I've been reading your blog for years and I was sad when you went private, but could totally understand. I was reading Kristi's blog a few weeks ago and she linked to you & lo and behold, you were no longer private! I was excited because I had always enjoyed reading your posts and seeing pictures of your adorable boys. I have been really bad about blogging myself and need to get back into it as well. Thanks for the encouragement! :)

  17. I'm totally with you on this one. I have a hard time keeping up with Facebook anyway. At least with blogging I can keep track of updates in my reader.
