TFT: Dog Food

Oh yeah! Finally, bringin' back Thoughts for Thursday!!

So, dog owners... Give me the scoop on your kibble. What kind of dog food do you feed your pooch? Why? Do you look at the ingredients? Do you go with cheapest or best value? Do you notice less poop to scoop? How much do you feed (please include dog breeds and weights, too)

  1. Rocky is a Boston Terrier, weighing 18 lbs.
We use Purina One - Lamb and Rice. I think when we first started using this brand we initially looked at the first few ingredients. (Lamb, Rice, and then Corn).
We just decided on this brand when we finally found a food that didn't give Rocky gas like the others.
I haven't really compared poop quantity from one brand to another. He probably poops twice a day. LOL.
We feed him 2x a day (1/2 cup each feeding).

  2. Sydney and Dooley are scottish terriers. We feed them Natural Choice, I think its lamb and rice (the green bag). It seems to work well for their allergies. It is all natural ingredients, no fillers. It was actually recommended by a friend of ours who is a vet. They poop 1-2x a day? We feed them a 1/2 cup in the morning and a 1/2 cup at night.

  3. Natasha is a cross jack russell/min schnauser
    15 lbs
We feed her "Wellness" brand-recommended by a pet nutrionist
We just fill her dish and she eats when she wants to. She is 14 years old.

  4. We have boxers and feed them Canidae All Life Stages. It is one of the more reasonably priced high end dog foods available. We feed them twice a day with one cup per feeding (actually a little less for Dozer the chunk). They poop once or twice a day. Apparently feeding RAW is what really cuts down on poop. A good friend of ours is a vet here at the St. Louis Zoo and she feeds her dogs RAW and says they are healthier than ever (even her boxer rescue who has terrible allergies to nearly every kind of food). Since we have kids, I've decided not to feed RAW, otherwise I might consider it but it is more expensive and time consuming. Anyway, here is a really informative article that is helpful no matter what breed dog you have. http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/view_choosing-a-good-kibble-dry-dog-food.htm
    Good luck!

  9. Hi Nicole - I am kim berrisfords sister... Kelly. : ) Our mom is also a follower, and told me to check out your new puppy. SO CUTE> Looks like my little girl. I got a goldendoodle in December. Laney our girl is almost 5 months and we feed her Blue Buffalo Puppy (Chicken and Brown Rice) Even though we pay a little more - it does not have any meal by-product like most products. We feed her twice a day - once between 7-8am and then again between 5-6. We are up to about 3.5 cups a day. We also through in about one can of soft food mixed into the dry food 3x a week for some changes. Our vet also told us to crack raw eggs a few times a week! we have not tried that yet!!
