goodbyes suck

7 summers ago I sat in this exact spot, on dirty carpet, feeding an infant Hudson while 2 year old Porter scampered around. The weeks prior to closing on this house were stressful and emotional. This house was my happy place. It was dirty, a foreclosure, but it was to be our home and I had big dreams for it. I would come here during the days, pick up a hot n ready pizza, land slowly work on fixing things up and making it a home. Today we are picking up the last straggling things of our belongings and it's breaking my heart to say goodbye.

Emotional wreck right now. I can't revisit this house again. It makes me so sad to think of all the memories we leave here. This is the last time the boys will run to the neighbors to play with E and K. I won't see them climb the tree in the front yard again. I won't hear them scamper off to the neighbors for Popsicles. It's crazy how 4 walls can hold so much more than your worldly belongings.

The last night.

Tonight is our last night at H House.   This move is so bittersweet.  We never thought we would have or want to move from H House. When we moved here, we had a 2 year old and 7 week old.  This was our first "real, grown up" house.  It had a doorbell and sidewalk to the front door!  It was more than double the size of our first home and we had big visions for this house.  I still have the long term "to do" list for H House and we surprisingly completed SO much of it.  We have so many amazing memories in this home.  Our boys grew up here!  The boys had their first days of school here.  First steps were taken by Hudson and Amelia. Our girls were brought home here.  Our family expanded from 4 to 5 to 6 in this home.  We've eaten dinner with good friends here.  We've had Thanksgiving dinners here from the stages of having "kid tables" to now having to host it buffet style because everyone has grown so much.  Santa came down this chimney for the past 7 years.  We've put sweat, tears and lots of love into these 4 walls.  I pray that the next family that moves in will see how special this house is and they too will create some amazing family memories here.  I hope they realize what a treasure the neighbors are.  Earlier today I heard the kids laughing and playing outside and it made me sad to think that it would likely be the last time Gary and Linda, our neighbors, would hear our kids' laughter (and fighting) from their yard. As hard as the house is going to be to say goodbye to, the neighbors will be the hardest.  They've become like family to us.  It's special, having neighbors who are a bit older than you but who get along with you and are so fun and relatable. They treat my kids like their grandchildren.  I remember when Porter was about 4, he realized Linda kept popsicles at her house so he would draw pictures for them and ask to take them next door, hoping she would offer him a Popsicle in return for his scribbly art.  The memories here.... So many amazing memories in our hearts.  So long, H House.  Many blessings for your next family.

The post you've all been waiting for....

So, what was my big Ikea purchase, you ask?

Well... first off, let me say- I surely know who hangs on my every boring word and who skims my rambling, drawon out posts HAHAA! A few of you guessed dining room table, but I wrote a few posts back about buying a table and chair set. Tsk Tsk Tsk! LOL! And, shame on those of you who called me on the phone to ask. That's no fun! I should have made you wait. ;)

No one guessed right. I bought a bed. Our first "real" bed... with headboard and footboard. We always just used a bedframe and it was so... blah looking. I love our new bed!

We did our own little "while you were out" day. Heather helped me paint the room and Ryan Morrison put up the curtain rod and put together the bed. My Ryan was surprised when he got home, and he really liked it! There are still quite a bit of things to finish up in the room (need something above our bed... any ideas? and I need to paint the trim and touch up some paint spots) but for now it looks so much better!

Here is the "before and after" pictures of the room:

Take off your shoes, honey... we're home!

Where do I begin? We’re in our new house and we’re absolutely in love. Minus the disgusting bathroom upstairs and the piles of boxes and all the items out of place. Monday morning my mom and I loaded up a pickup truck, trailer and my car with our couch, dressers and misc. items from her house. Maria met us at the house and we ripped up the living room carpet. It was gross… there were so many spill/pee spots on it. Eww!

The three of us unloaded the trailer and truck and by then it was time to go close on the house! Ryan and I were the first ones there… surprise surprise! We were ready to go! Closing took half an hour and we were so so thrilled to finally have those keys (legally) in our hands! We spent the evening moving stuff to the house and were so exhausted by the end of the day. Ryan’s dad took the boys back to their house so Ryan and I could work a little later (we stayed at their house one more night rather than the new house). We were in the living room taking a break and Ryan kicked up his feet on the coffee table and said “Take off your shoes, honey- we’re home! Really… take them off!” LOL! So, we kicked off our shoes and hung out in our new living room, soaking up the great feeling of home ownership again.

Yesterday my mom and I got Porter’s bunk beds and Hudson’s crib put together. I organized and got most of our kitchen stuff put away. We have SO much more cabinet space in the kitchen I just have no idea where to put stuff! I went grocery shopping today... dropped a nice $220 on groceries. We had nothing, though... literally like a box of cereal, english muffins, ketchup, mayo and water. Yum, huh?

Its been like Christmas for Porter here. He’s so excited to see all of his toys. Yesterday when we got here (after staying at Cathy and Dave’s for the night), Porter ran into the house and into his playroom and said “My PLAY ROOM! Look, my toys! Oh, here’s my truck!” And every time I’d find a box of toys and open it for him he was so happy to find his long lost toys.

I can’t believe how much crap we have! Our basement is filled up already (lots of it is garage sale stuff, though) and so is the garage. It’ll be nice to get everything in its place, put the holiday stuff up in the attic and other storage stuff in the utility room downstairs and dig through all the boxes and organize. We need to have a garage sale soon- we have way too much junk.

We got our cable, phone and internet installed today. I don't like Comcast thus far. The guy set up a wireless thingy ma jigger for us so that we didn't have to run a cable to the guest room upstairs and then change it to the basement when I move my office down there. I plan to buy a wireless network card (?) for my desktop and just be all wireless, I guess. Great idea, however... I am sitting here on the laptop with the ethernet cord plugged in... I still can't get wireless to work. Weird. Good thing my O'Fallon, MO tech support will be in town this weekend so maybe he can figure it out?

Alright... I'm off to catch up on blogs (wondering if Cass had her baby!!) and then I'm sure by then Hudson will be up. I do have some random snapshots to share, but I can't seem to find my card reader to upload my pics to my computer.

T minus 16 hours

We're almost there... its closing day! I can't wait.

They removed the lock box from the house on Friday so we had to be... uh... creative and we went back to the house today to finish some projects and move a few things over there. Yeah, I know... we're impatient.

I'm exhausted. We got a ton done today, but we still have so much to do! I don't think we're going to stay at the house tomorrow night as Ryan finished changing the doorway to the walk-in closet so we need to mud and sand and paint that- meaning we probably won't move any furniture into Hudson or our rooms tomorrow. I don't know.

So... for memory's sake... here's what Ryan and I finished today:
  • Painted Hudson's room a delicious "Sublime Lime". I was afraid it'd be too bright.. but its perfect!
  • Put up drywall to close off the doorway to the closet in Hudson's room
  • Busted out the doorway to the walk-in closet in our room
  • Framed the doorway
  • Put up the trim
  • Finished stripping the wallpaper in our room
  • Mudded the 50 zillion holes in the wall (I have a great pic for you of this)
  • Put 2 more coats of polyurethane on the wood floor downstairs
WHEW. I'm tired just thinking of all that. I have a huge to-do list for tomorrow... first being to rip out the nasty carpet in the livingroom! We've decided to wait to refinish the livingroom floor until August when we go to Silver Lake for the weekend... that way we won't have to be in the house while the polyurethane dries completely. That stuff is smelly!!

One more... just one more

We have a closing date: Monday at 4pm and H House will be ours!

I'm bummed we aren't closing tomorrow (because it'd be nice to have the weekend to move!) but I'm also happy because that means I can still go to Archiver's with the girls! We've been dreaming of this trip for quite awhile, so I'm excited that I can still go. I'm not sure how it'll work out with moving during the week. We had everything (aka: help) lined up for moving this weekend... grr.

Ry and I worked at the house tonight.

  • Primed Hudson's room and put 2 coats of ceiling paint on the ceiling. Its purple and dries white so you can see where you painted. Neat, huh?
  • Began stripping the wallpaper in our room
  • Ry took the closet doors off the walk-in, took down the trim and framed in the doorway. It just needs drywall, mud and paint and it'll be a wall! Once we close, he plans to demo the wall in our room to re-open the doorway.
  • Put a coat of polyurethane on the wood floors. I am loving the color. It looks really nice now that its soaked in and dried.
Whew! I'm tired.

We're cleared to close!

After this entire week of phone calls and waiting for faxes and statement verifications and bugging people to get their shit done and emails and waiting and hoping and praying that things would hurry and get wrapped up.... we finally are cleared to close! Our loan officer is still thinking we'll be able to set the closing for tomorrow, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel for sure!

That tidbit of good news is offset by the fact that Porter came walking to me throwing up his Fruity Cheerios all over the living room floor. I was in the middle of changing Hudson's diaper, so I attempted to hustle Porter over to the dining room floor (wood) and then got wrapped up with cleaning him up and noticed that poor Hudson was still laying in the livingroom with legs kicking around, bare butt hanging out.

So far Porter is acting fine, though. I've set him up with the Jungle Book movie and hopefully we'll keep the day low-key. I had a session scheduled with Missy today (baby Carter), but I had to cancel.

A little Porter funny for today..... We've been working on his pronunciation of "F's". He pronounces "f" as the "tr" sound. Such as.... THat was a trunny trace (funny face).... I kicked that ball with my troot. I caught a trish at the lake! Well, he can make the "f" sound if he really thinks about it (if we ask him to slow it down), and today he was playing with some trucks and said "I like this trire f*uck" instead of fire truck HAHAH! He got the f and t mixed around LOL! Oh man...

OPAM and Hudson Updates

Today's completed projects:
  • Paint living room (2 coats of paint)
  • Paint trim in living room (still have to do around the windows)
  • Do a final sanding on the hallway floor
  • Condition and stain hallway floor
  • Wash out veggie drawers in fridge
So, here are the before and after pictures of the living room:

The color appears a little more "gold" than it really is. I was hesitant that the color might be too dark, but once I started painting I was so happy with how it looked. Its exactly what I wanted.

And the hallways. The floor is pine (in the living room and hallway. Oak throughout the rest of the house) and I wanted the living room and hallway to be a nice, deep dark walnut color. I'm nervous that it'll be too dark, though. The hallway probably isn't the best place to judge the color as there is no natural light in there. And the polyurethane hasn't been put on so it is really dull.

What do you think? Would the living room look good that dark color? (The rest of the house I'll probably either leave the floors the natural color and just poly them or do a medium chestnut color- nothing too dark at all)

(the next pictures shows the floor sanded, so it looks lighter than the pic above)

Yesterday we bought a new kitchen sink faucet and Ryan installed it. I just bought this slipcover today off eBay. We have a loveseat that was Ryan's grandmas, and I figure for the time being it'll be cheaper to just cover it rather than purchase a new loveseat. I hope this cover matches our brown chair and tan couch. I'm excited to see our living room come together.
And, of course, a few pictures of the boys.

Look how much my little guy has changed!
I've been wanting to post some "what is he up to" things about Hudson. I guess I'll do that here...
  • He eats about every 3-4 hours still, and eats between 4 and 5 ounces.
  • We still have a nonexistent schedule. I seriously have no clue as to when he'll be napping etc, and we're so on the go lately with working on the house, we have not attempted to create "naptimes" or "bedtime"- we just go with the flow and its working so far.
  • He is doing great with falling asleep on his own. I can usually tell when he's tired- he won't eat and kind of grunts around and squirms a lot. Like he's agitated. So I just swaddle him up tight and lay him in the pack n play with his sucky and I'd say 90% of the time he will lay there and fall asleep on his own. Occasionally I have to "shh shh shh" him or pat his butt or jostle the crib, but I'm pretty proud of how well he does most of the time.
  • He's been waking up about twice a night- no set times, no schedule (like I said... we're all crazy around here), but its typically every 4 hours or so at night. (like 1am and 5 am or midnight and 4am etc etc)
  • He loves when Porter talks to him- if he's fussing or grunting around unhappily on the floor or in his swing, Porter will run over and snuggle up to him and talk baby talk and say "What wrong, Hudson Bessie?" He's so sweet with him. Hudson loves to watch Porter and smiles at him when Porter talks to him.
  • He's a bit of a mama's boy. Ryan's been home alone with the boys twice this week while I worked on the house alone. Both times I've come home and he's said Hudson was fussy with him and even CRIED. He cried, for pete's sake. And it takes a lot to make this kiddo cry. And Ryan got ticked because I picked him up and he was a-okay.
  • He's just outgrown some of his newborn clothes. He still has a few one-pieces he can wear though. I'm sure in a week he'll be out of those. He wears 0-3 month clothes. Size 1 diapers.

Demolition

More house talk. I know, I know... I'm getting boring. Sorry bout that.

Today's finished projects:
  • primed living room
  • finished stripping wallpaper in Hudson's room (which we've decide we're going to use as the guest room)
  • sanded the wood floors in the hallway between the living room and kitchen
**Huge thanks to my grandma for coming for the third time and cleaning windows... what the heck would I do without her? And more thanks to LeeAnn for helping me paint and strip wallpaper.

We're swapping Hudson's room, which ultimately makes more work for us. We decided to put him in the room across the hall from us- the green room with the walk in closet- b/c it has larger wall space to put his crib and the door is not at the top of the stairs. The walk in closet must have used to have a door to both bedrooms (our room and the green room), and the doorway in our room has been closed off. We're actually going to close off the doorway in the green room (Hudson's) and re-open it into our room.

So... up next this week will be the following projects:
  • paint the ceiling in Hudson's room white (its a grayish tan, making the room seem dark)
  • paint Hudson's room 'sublime lime'
  • paint the living room
  • begin stripping the wallpaper in our room
Once we close on the house we'll refinish the livingroom floors and begin the closet reconfiguration.

I spoke with the loan officer today and we are still on schedule to close this week. Still no for sure date/time, but this week sometime.

Day 1 of the "Plan": Completed

I woke up at 9am this morning and headed over to H House. I stopped at Menards to pick up two cans of primer and a gallon of "Favorite Socks" blue for Porter's room.

After EIGHT hours at the house... Grandma accomplished cleaning 2 bathrooms (yes, it took that long. They were seriously that dirty) and I accomplished painting Porter's room (walls and trim) and the hallway (walls and trim). I also sanded the living room spackle holes, so I think tomorrow I'm going to head over there and throw a coat of primer on it.

I am a tad nervous about all this work I'm doing. Naughty naughty! I think, though, at this point if we got in trouble I could plead insanity and have a pretty convincing case, don't you think? LOL!

I took pictures, and will post them for "OPAM". I should probably call it "OPAD" since this house will be much more than one project a month.

I have no idea why two of these pics are showing up sideways.... weird.

Bravery or Desperation: A Plan of Action

When we first got the lock code for H House, I walked on eggshells inside. I knew technically we were supposed to have contractors doing the work and that we, the buyers, were not supposed to be inside the house. Both our realtor and the listing agent told us they were turning a blind eye at the fact that we were going to do the work. They honestly didn't care.

At first I wandered the house, letting my imagination clean up the dirt off the walls, patch the holes in the wall, peel the dated wallpaper and paint the walls. Slowly, slowly, I became a little braver.

It started with spackle. Just a few holes. Ok, I'll go throughout the house and get the walls prepped for primer. No one can blame me for filling in nail holes, right?

Alright, alright. I'll wipe down the dirty trim and doors. I need to wipe them down to prep them for paint, right?

Ok, fine. I'll just sweep the floors up and vacuum the living room. Its just a little dirt. Who will miss it?

Fine! Twist my arm! I know... the wallpaper is like 20 years old anyway... I might as well start stripping it so I can paint Hudson's room.

Eww, you're right... the curtains are past their date. Take all window treatments down, throw them away along with the inch of dust that collected at the top. Patch the holes where the curtain rods were so that I can paint.

Ok, you're right... the kitchen IS a pit. I'll just get that spic and span and ready for move in.

So... you can see my evolution of braver... or perhaps its desperation to have this house ready to move in the second the keys are legally ours. Good news... the appraiser came out yesterday and we're cleared for closing once our boiler/heater guy sends in a letter stating the boiler is in working condition. We *should* be able to close at the end of next week, but I'm not holding my breath.

Since everything is on the move and the house is pretty much going to be ours in a week, I have a new plan of action for this weekend. It goes as follows:

1. Grandma is going to help clean the two disgusting bathrooms. Those will be all ready to move in (although they're both in desperate need of remodeling... that'll have to wait)
2. Sand Porter's room and paint it "Favorite Socks" blue. His room will be all ready.

3. Paint the downstairs hallway that runs between the living room and kitchen. Its yellow. The trim is disgusting. Paint it "Fresh Biscotti" aka... color of our old living room.

4. Paint all the trim throughout the house a fresh coat of "Whipped White". That way I'll just have to tape off the trim to paint the walls when I'm ready.

5. Beg...err... recruit Leslie to help strip the wallpaper in Hudson's room. If that gets stripped, go ahead and paint it.

I know we probably are not supposed to be doing anything at all in the house. Really, I doubt we are even allowed in the house now that the actual required work is finished. But I Do. Not. Care. I want to get this house as close to done as I can so that when we close, we can move our beds in and just start living there. I don't care if we have furniture. I'll sleep on the wood floors HAHA!

Since the boys' rooms should be painted by the time we close, we'll probably go ahead and start staying there. However, the living room will be a big project once we close. Here's my plan for that:

1. Primer the dark green walls.

2. Paint them "Jute"?? Or maybe a lighter shade of tan....

3. Rip out the nasty, stained carpet in the living room

4. Sand down the living room and hallway floor.

5. Put on a coat (or two?) of Dark Walnut stain

6. Polyeurothane. Like 2 or 3 coats says the Menards girl.

So... we can gate off the livingroom and let the boys (ok, Porter) have access to the foyer, diningroom, kitchen and upstairs. I think it'll work. We'll work on that WHILE living in the house. I'm so so so excited!

Anyhow... sorry bout the long BORING post. Here are some pictures. A small reward for sticking through this post?
Such a cute smile, don't you think?

The haircut. About 4 inches off.

They were doing some construction work near the park. Porter liked watching the trucks.

Getting some chub...

"Hi Hudson Bessie! Hi Big Bass!" (don't ask why he calls him Big Bass... I have no clue)
Chaos. Don't I look like hell?

Frustration

I'm irritated, moody, and just plain bitchy today. I thought we'd have the repairs done on the house by this weekend so we could have the inspector out today and hopefully close next Monday (seeing that this Friday is 4th of July and a lot of people will have Friday and possibly Thursday off...). Well, the stairwell to the apartment didn't get finished. It also didn't get finished tonight. Not that I blame my dear hubby. He's been working so hard, and his dad has also been exhausting himself helping Ryan try to get these things done. Its just been the two of them all week. His dads truck also broke down on Friday, so tonight when we were at Menards (home improvement store for those of you who don't have one), we went to pick up the last few sheets of paneling for the ceiling in the apartment- hoping to get this finished tonight and have the inspections tomorrow. Well, we then realized that we didn't have a vehicle to get the 4'x8' sheets home, and whats more- Ryan didn't have anyone to help put the paneling on the ceiling. I had to take the boys home to get them in bed.

This whole freaking repair thing is just irritating the hell out of me.

I hate that we're spending money on stupid repairs that we wouldn't have put as a priority to do right away. There are SO many other things I'd rather have spent money on.

I hate that I am stuck with the boys all day and all night. And I really just want to be helping Ryan get things done at the house. Its a little hard to do that with a 2 year old and 5 week old in tow. I wish we were able to LIVE in the house right now as we'd then at least be able to put the boys to bed at 7 and we could both work throughout the evening.

I'm also just plain sick of not having my own home. I'm sick of living in someone else's house. I have exhausted many of our sitters this past week (thank you Grandma, Cathy and Heather!!) so that I could get things done. And I've thought may times this past week that I wish I could call the girl who babysat Porter for me last summer to come babysit so that I could help with house stuff, or run errands, or get my hair cut, but I can't really hire a sitter because I'm not living at my own home. Yeah, I could have her come to my mom/grandpa's house but its such a pain to keep an eye on Porter when my grandpa is doing repairs around the house and he wants to be in the way. And what babysitter wants to babysit when there are other people in the house too? I hated that when I was a teen babysitting. I also have clients I need to schedule this month and I am not sure when we'll be moving, when I'll be able to get a sitter to do the sessions and when I'll even have time to proof them, order and package and ship them. I don't have an office here and I don't have any privacy from the boys during the day to even get work done.

Its just all so frustrating. I want things back to normal. I want to be HOME. I want to be just the 4 of us together in our own house. I want Ryan and I to be able to spend our evenings together working on house stuff, chatting about our ideas and plans and dreams for our new home. I want the boys to sleep in their own bedrooms and I want Porter to have all his toys back again.

I'm just over this temporary move thing. I want these stupid repairs to get finished. I wish we had the money to have just hired someone to do the work, or that Ryan had other reliable help in addition to his dad.

Wow. What a whiney post. I was all chipper yesterday, but c'mon. We're getting down to the wire. Really we have until about Weds to get the appraiser out as who knows if he'll be available last minute so close to a holiday weekend. So that'd push the appraisal to the following week. UGH!

highlights

  • Hudson has been cooing and talking and gurgling and smiling like a crazy man lately. I finally got an actual "response" smile from him about 4 days ago. So so sweet. He has the cutest smile, if I do say so myself. ;)
  • Porter went poop on the potty all by himself! The other day I threw on some underwear on him and told him when he goes on the potty he'd get a chocolate candy (chocolate chip). He was super into it when he saw me put a little bowl of chocolate chips in the bathroom cabinet. While I was feeding Hudson, Porter pooped on the potty all on his own. However, not long after that he not only peed but pooped in his underwear. We aren't ready for hard core training yet, that's for sure.

  • Yesterday I was driving down the road and drove past a lady mowing her lawn. I heard a loud "crunch" - she ran over a rock or something with her mower. Not seconds after I hear a loud "CLANK" on my car. Her mower hit a rock. Spit it at my car and hit my window and chipped it! Thankfully, it didn't break- it was the back passenger window where Porter was sitting.

  • Aubri stayed the night with Porter last night. They've been hanging out nearly everyday with eachother whether at our new house, at Oma Boma's or at my mom's house. Heather watched Porter for me yesterday and took the kids swimming. I picked them up and Aubri stayed the night with us. My back seat was pretty full!
  • Lots of HOUSE things going on:
    • Ryan has been busting his ass every day this week. He is up for work around 4:30am. He works from 6-3 and every day since Tuesday he's gone straight to the new house to work on those repairs. He's been working on the house until about 10pm. I'm thankful he's so good at house projects and that he's so dedicated to getting things done for the inspection. He's so tired and worn out from working so much. I can't wait until these repairs are done. Almost there. Unfortunately (however, it is still an exciting thought), the projects are nowhere near done in this house LOL!

(Ryan taking a break and sitting in front of the a/c)
    • (Me- finishing up the balcony railing. No, its not a pretty railing, but its done-quick and cheap- and up to code for the inspections)
    • Speaking of house projects... whoever invented wallpaper should be wound in wallpaper and glue and dropped off in a remote area with only water and a chisel to get out. I began taking the wallpaper down in Hudson's room and it SUCKS. I thought wallpaper wouldn't be a terrible project. I thought I didn't have "that much" to do in the house. Except the two walls in Hudson's room. And our room. And the bathroom. And dining room. Foyer. Playroom. Oh. And the kitchen. Holy freaking wallpaper hell!

    • I bought a chandelier for the dining room! I went to some garage sales on Saturday, drove by one sale and noticed some boxes of newer looking chandeliers out in their sale. They were brand new and one was very similar to the one that Ryan and I both liked at Mendards. The retail sticker said $129... and the garage sale price was $20. Sweet! However, once I got it home I peeled off the garage sale sticker to reveal a "clearanced out" price of $11.49 HAHAH! So, the dude made $8 off me. I still got a deal, right?

    • I've decided to refinish the livingroom floor before moving in. Under the carpet, the floor is an orangey-yellow colored wood and looks to not have any polyurethane finish on it yet. So, I have to seal it anyway and figured why not stain it a nice dark walnut/espresso color while I'm at it? I can't wait to start on that project. Wait. I can't wait to have it done.

    • I bought a dining room set yesterday. Its an antique Duncan Phyfe 8 person set. I got it for $100 at an auction. Its a dark walnut finish and the chairs have cream seats. I'd really love a black dining set, but for that price I couldn't beat it! I also got this chair for $4.

    • We met more neighbors today. I am loving this house and the neighbors so far. The neighbors to each side of us are older (ok, like our parents ages), but the family today stopped by has two kids- a 9 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. They saw our fire going (Ry was burning this old skateboard ramp that we needed to get rid of) and thought maybe we were having a bonfire and wanted to stop by. They're super nice. The wife is a teacher and even sweetly offered to watch Porter for an hour or two if we need him off our hands. She said that she really wants to put together a cookout/get together with all the neighbors so we can all get to know eachother and I am so excited at that idea. I offered to help her put something together later this summer. They just bought a pop-up and are going to begin camping this summer, so maybe we'll have some camping buddies in the future! They also told us the family that lives behind us has a 2 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. I can't wait to meet them as well. So far, looks like our little "road" is going to be a great place to live! Everyone seems nice and everyone has said that the area is great and the high school isn't bothersome at all. I'm feeling so good about this house.

    • After leaving our "home" (I say "goodbye home" every night when we leave. I can't wait to sleep there!), I was driving in the dark and randomly grabbed a cd out of my case. I couldn't identify it by the first song, so skipped right to the second. Come and Listen. Love the lyrics. I'm so feeling this way right now... I feel like we have so much goodness happening to us. So much that I'm thankful for. So much to look foward to. So blessed.
Come and listen
Come and listen to what He’s done

Praise our God for He is good

He has done for me
He has done for you

He has done for us

(Hudson, chilling among the massive mess in our living room)(So cute, and I swear the spitting image of his daddy)

Oh dear God its 2:30am. My mom kept Porter and Aubri overnight at Brian's house. Here I have a night I should be sleeping because I don't have a toddler to get up with in the morning and what do I do? Blog. Blog all night long. I guess I can sleep in tomorrow, though.

Its the little things.....

We spent the evening at H House. Ryan was able to finish the mudroom (he covered the exposed cinder blocks and put down carpeting. It still needs the painting finished and the window/door trim and baseboard, but according to the appraiser its considered finished at this point and that's all that matters at this time. We'll finish those details once we're moved in.

Its funny the little things that are making me so excited about this house. I keep telling Ryan "We're actually going to have a REAL house" and he always says back "As opposed to having a fake house? What did we used to live in?" HAHA! Well, our last home was more like an apartment it was so small and the bedrooms were right off the livingroom. H House, however, has room. Space. Little details that make it "real" LOL!

I'm obsessed with the little things I'm so excited to have. Like the fact that we have a sidewalk that goes up to the front door. And a foyer with a coat closet. And a doorbell. We have a doorbell at both the front and the back doors!

Since we're about 90% of the way to having the keys in our hands (today I cleared up some things with our financing, and once we complete the FHA required repairs and have it reinspected, we will get our closing date set, which we've asked to extend to July 15th to complete these repairs), I think its somewhat safe to take you on a virtual tour. I am still nervous that something will come up and we'll end up living with my mom and grandpa forever, but I'm trying to have faith and confidence that this somewhat dream come true "real house" is ours.

So, let me take you on our virtual tour. Please keep in mind that there is a LOT of work to be done. Primarily cleaning and painting and lots of other little details. I'll narrate along the way with our "ideas" for the house. Although, many of these ideas aren't going to happen for a few more years.

Here's the front of the house. There to the left is the garage and above it is the apartment (which is about 500sq feet). We plan to paint the front door and shutters black eventually. The neighbors house is nearly identical to ours (the same 2 story style with tan with green shutters, but minus the brick on the front). I have already trimmed up the jungle...err... landscaping... and I have a few ideas to change that up as well.
Here's the floorplan. Hudson's room will be bed #1. Porter's will be bed #2, the office bed #3 (which has the walk-in closet) and our room will be bed #4 (only because it has a solid wall to put a queen bed on... the other rooms have windows in the middle of the walls and no decent spot for a queen bed and headboard).
When you walk in the front door here is the foyer. Wallpaper will be stripped and the carpeting on the stairs will be removed (there is hardwood on the stairs). We'll probalby put up a narrower carpet runner up the stairs for safety reasons, although I'd love the look of all wood stairs.
To the left is the dining room. More on that later.

To the right is the living room and playroom.
This will be painted asap. Curtains thrown away. Carpet will be removed as there is gorgeous hardwood underneath. I would like to take out the fireplace insert because its bulky, metal and ugly. I want a new ceiling fan too.

Right off the living room (to the right of the fireplace) is a playroom... (or den, or office... but we'll use it as a playroom)
Playroom... no big ideas for this yet. We'll replace the carpet, take down the valances and strip the wallpaper.
Walking back through the living room toward the back of the house is a hallway to the kitchen. In the hallway is a pantry, the basement door and a bathroom.

Ohh... the crazy bathroom. Well, it has this funky, drinking-fountain-like sink in it. Its ugly. It has a stall shower and really, who wants to shower right off your kitchen? Anyhow, first up for remodeling is the UPSTAIRS bathroom (which, scarily, is in worse condition than this). We'll keep the shower down here for the time being so we have a shower to use. Then we plan to remodel this bathroom, take out the shower and mini-sink and put in a big vanity and mirror across that wall. Obviously, curtains will go and it will be painted.
The kitchen... I've already tossed the fake leaves. These people must have loved leaves. The cabinet handles are leaves (I want to replace those soon). Eventually I'd like to strip that wallpaper, but it really isn't terrible. And new countertops. And put in a new floor. The grout is an awful shade of... black. Eww.
Here's the other side of the kitchen. See the fake leaves? HAHA! Well, we can't put cabinets under that countertop b/c it has the baseboard heating. So, we would eventually like to take down the cabinets, bust out that wall into the dining room and replace the countertop and make that a bar to eat at.
Walking through to the dining room.... Curtains, wallpaper and chandelier will be outta there. We will probalby put up a chairrail and panel molding.

Going up the stairs....
Here's the upstairs bathroom. (Its in between Hudson and Porter's rooms). Its a mess. Unfortunately we probably won't be able to remodel it right away, so a good scrubbing will have to do for the time being.

Porter's room (#2), the linen closet and the office (eventually a guest room once we finish the basement and move my office down there).

Another view of the upstairs from Hudson's doorway.

This is the room that will be the office (eventually guest room). I'll have my stuff in the walk-in closet though.
This will be our room. The window to the right has been filled in because the apartment is on the other side of the wall. Someday we'd like to make a doorway on that wall into the apartment and remodel the apartment into a master suite.
View of the upstairs (Hudson's room and bathroom) from the green room/office.
The back of the house. That door there on the right goes into the kitchen.

Here's the view of the backyard from Porter's room. THe driveway goes up the side of the house and wraps around through the backyard. There's a basketball hoop and a playhouse (treehouse?) in the backyard as well!
The basement had paneling up but we need to take it down, seal and insulate the walls and put up drywall. There is a large family room area down there, a separate room off that with double doors that we'll eventually replace with french doors and make that my office, and there is a laundry/utility/storage room thats a great size as well. Lots of potential in the basement. Now if only we could win the lottery and have the money to do all these great things LOL!

So, that's it. That's my "real dream house" at this point. I can't wait to show before/after pictures once we're able to do some painting and carpet ripping out and all that fun stuff. We have access to the house right now, but we legally are only supposed to be doing the repairs the the appraiser has required.

Oh... and this is totally disgusting. I was wiping down the walls today and in Porter's room there were these crusty spots on the wall I was scrubbing. I noticed they were all around this corner and on the ceiling. And then I realized... they were boogers! Dried flicked boogers. Sick! And what's worse... I looked at the window trim and there was a whole collection of them all up the side of the window trim. HOW SICK! I took a picture for laughs...
