Last night Ryan and I started parenting classes with our therapist/counselor/social worker (I think her actual title is social worker... but not sure). The classes are called I am, too, to the boss of you. I was hesitant to do the class after meeting with D on our own. I liked the one on one attention and feedback. I wasn't sure what "type" of parents to expect in this class (those of you who live in Jackson know what I'm talking about...). However, it was SO SO refreshing to meet other parents... normal... mature and "classy" parents.... that are having struggles with their kids as well. I'm really looking forward to the next 8 weeks and our weekly "date night" to check in with everyone in class to make sure we're staying on track with our new parenting habits. We haven't met with D since before Memorial Day and I have noticed our habits slowly slipping backwards to our old, bad habits. I think we need that weekly meeting just to chat about struggles and issues and stuff like that. I feel like it is a step in the right direction. Yes, the class wan't cheap but I (and I'm sure every other parent in the class) don't think you can put a price on your sanity and your child's future. We have changes to make and we need to make them now so that our end result.... a responsible, respectful adult.... is what we are working towards.
Last night was especially nice because my mom took the boys overnight so Ryan and I had a little date night out of it as well. We went to Bone Island Grille and uh... stuffed our faces. They have THE BEST nachos and we were soooo hungry that we ordered the full order (uhm... probably enough to feed 4 adults?) as well as mozzarella cheese sticks.... and ate nearly all of it!! PIGS! We were both stuffed. We didn't even have room for TJ Freeze soft serve ice cream... THE BEST ice cream around. THE BEST.
YAY!!! I wanted to call and ask how it went........ SO JEALOUS! I thought the meeting other parents with the same issues would surely be one of the best parts. Like a support group of people who don't feel so alone! So happy to hear it went so well........
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a great group to be a part of. i am pretty sure they don't offer anything like that where i am ... but i would be SO interested. maybe you can start doing online classes to blogger moms? :) glad to hear you enjoy it and feel it is beneficial. money well spent!
